What is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in countries around the world. Millions of people have come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

We have two days for getting deals – Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On #GivingTuesday, we have a day for giving back. Together, people are creating a new ritual for our annual calendar. #GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season.

How can you get involved?

Every act of generosity counts, and each means even more when we give together. #GivingTuesday includes people of all ethnicities, religions and backgrounds.

Everyone has something to give. You can give time or expertise, monetary donations large or small, simple acts of kindness, food or clothing.

Here are some ideas:

  • Donate clothing to your local LGBT shelter
  • Volunteer with a local LGBT organization
  • Offer your services pro-bono: this could include professional services or manual labor like landscaping or maintenance tasks
  • Organize a volunteer event to benefit a local LGBT organization

Our Goals.

PFLAG Spartanburg has set some big goals for the coming year. Big goals means big investment, both financially and in terms of time. We depend on our local Spartanburg community to keep PFLAG running. In the coming year we will be working towards our biggest goals ever and we need your help!

We want to expand our reach and our capabilities. Here are some goals we’re working toward as we move into 2019:

  • Increase our reach and visibility in Spartanburg
  • Grow our footprint in the community as an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights
  • Grow our membership and operations
  • Continue offering our Equality Scholarships to local students
  • A forever home for PFLAG Spartanburg operations and meetings
  • Youth Resource Center

Every dollar you give, each hour your volunteer and each connection you help us make brings us closer to making a lasting, positive impact on Spartanburg’s community. We believe in advocacy and equality for every person and we need your help to accomplish these goals.

Last year we were able to grow our reach, help launch the Uplift Outreach Center and be present in SO many other ways. Help us continue our work this #GivingTuesday and every day.

Giving Tuesday #MyGivingStory

Our stories.

Here are some of the reasons PFLAG members do what they do for Spartanburg.

PFLAG Communications Director, Heather Marie SchieferHeather Schiefer, Director of Communications

I support PFLAG Spartanburg because we need them. This group does so much more than organize support groups. They are working hard to collaborate with other organizations to move Spartanburg forward and reach out to LGBTQ+ people in need. As a bi-sexual woman who spent most of her life hiding my sexuality, I understand now more than ever that we must be visible if we want our children and grandchildren to see us as REAL members of their own community. Not just a concept or a cause.

PFLAG Vice President Deb ForemanDebra Foreman, PFLAG Vice President

As the mom of a transgender son and a bi-sexual daughter I was naturally drawn to Pflag Spartanburg. I have served on the Pflag Board for a total of 3 years.
A Mama Bear fights for her Cubs and I will fight for my children and everyone else’s as a straight ally.
The Upstate of South Carolina is moving slowly in the area of lgbtq+ rights but things are changing and I want to be part of that change.
